Starting off your weight loss journey can feel overwhelming, especially if there’s a lot of weight to lose.
Which diet should I try? How many calories should I eat? What exercise regime should I do? Do I need to find a gym? What do I need to start eating? What do I need to stop eating? What meals do I have to learn to make? Do I need supplements or vitamins? How much weight should I be losing? How am I going to deal with all of the changes I need to make in my life???
Thinking about all of the above, it’s easy to just shut down and feel incompetent, because we have no idea what we’re doing or how to start.
So why do we feel incompetent when we’re starting out?
Because… we ARE incompetent.
I’m not going to sugar coat it. It’s the raw truth.
Should someone who has never swum before expect to feel competent at swimming when they first start? Should someone who’s never spoken in public before feel competent at speaking in public their first time? No, of course not. But here’s the silver lining of this raw truth: it’s OKAY to feel incompetent.
When we’re first trying to lose weight, we should totally expect to flounder, fail, screw up, and feel incompetent while we are figure it all out. Over time and practice, however, we start figuring it out, and then after more practice and feedback (this reflection/feedback loop is critical), we eventually hit a breakthrough and figure it out.
The faster we accept our incompetence, the faster we can deal with it through the feedback loop of action, failure, reflection/planning, and then action again. And the more we go through this feedback loop, the faster we move towards mastery.
I designed Luuze with this feedback loop in mind, and I feel like it’s one of the best ways a person can lose weight. And I’ve designed it to be straightforward: download the app, weigh yourself daily, then reflect on the questions the virtual coach asks you.
As you do this, you will start understanding how the choices you make in relation to eating and exercise impact how much you weigh. The hope is that through this feedback loop you will slowly and subconsciously tweak your habits until you get to a point where, just like swimming, you’ve figured out how your body works, allowing you to gain CONTROL over your body and what it looks like.
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, incompetent, and don’t know where to start when it comes to weight loss, realize that THIS IS NORMAL. We are all incompetent when we start. Don’t let the need to be perfect stop you from getting started. You’ve got nothing to lose by trying Luuze for free, so you can start with that.
