The Benefit of Daily Weigh-Ins

Do you think weighing yourself daily is a good thing or bad thing to support weight loss? When asked, most people would say it’s a bad thing.

The truth is that it actually can be a good thing. Believe it or not, there are numerous studies that people who weigh themselves regularly have better weight loss outcomes. I believe it was one of the key reasons why I was able to succeed in losing 100 pounds.

Many things about weight loss are not black and white. There is some truth that weighing yourself can be a bad thing: anyone who has weighed themselves regularly knows that the scale can be immensely demotivating. Because of water weight, the scale lies and it is not always an accurate measure of progress. A (fake) big jump in our weight can make us feel that we’ve lost months of progress with a single meal!

What Luuze does is that it calculates something called trend weight to remove the fluctuations of the scale, turning the scale into what can feel like our worst enemy into our greatest ally in our weight loss journey.

If you weigh yourself daily, weigh-ins can be stressful (shown by the pink line). The blue trend weight line shows your true progress.

Remove the Negatives of Weighing Yourself Daily To Benefit From The Positives

Once you remove the fluctuations by using Luuze to calculate trend weight, you then gain the advantages that weighing yourself daily gives you. Here are some benefits:

  • Weighing yourself can give you something to measure your progress
  • Accountability: you are held to a certain standard during your weight loss journey (but be sure to be kind to yourself and be okay with going slow!)
  • It can enable you to be more mindful about your eating habits for the rest of the day, which can be a small but significant difference

An important part of any feedback loop is the need to track progress accurately. The more data you put in, the more feedback you get. Luuze works best when you weigh yourself daily, in the morning, after you’ve gone to the washroom. Doing this enables Luuze to accurately calculate your progress so it can give you the right feedback.

If you’ve struggled with the ups and downs of the scale in the past, be sure to focus on trend weight. Consider even turning off the grey dots that show the measurements in the scale in the app settings so you can focus on the blue trend weight line.
